The Diamondbacks might have found themselves battling to avoid a last-place finish this weekend against the San Diego Padres, but count right-hander Zack Greinke among those who doesn’t think his team is too far from contending.
“I still think our team is very talented, especially when, say, 90 percent of us are healthy or a lot of us are healthy, I think our team is as good as just about any team in baseball,” he said. “This year it just did not work that way.”
Greinke, speaking to reporters for the first time since his season was cut short by shoulder problems, said he did not want to go into specifics about the injury but did say, in a roundabout way, that it wasn’t an overly serious issue.
