Greinke seeing moderate success with new style

SAN DIEGO – In the first inning on Wednesday night, Zack Greinke threw seven pitches to the Padres’ Wil Myers, all of them to the same place, down and away. The strikes barely nicked the zone. The balls missed off the plate or down.

In some ways, this was a typical at-bat against Greinke, who attacked Myers the way the numbers show a pitcher should. But the result – a walk – appeared to be another example of how the Diamondbacks’ ace is adjusting his pitching style to the results of his season.

Rather than avoiding walks, he is issuing them and trying to work around them.
