ANAHEIM -- The D-backs left the scorching heat of Arizona for the cooler temperatures of California, but first baseman Paul Goldschmidt's bat remained on fire.
Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer in the first inning Monday night to give the D-backs a quick lead over the Angels in the first of a two-game set at Angel Stadium.
Jon Jay hit a grounder back up the middle to lead off the game with a single against Jaime Barria and Goldschmidt followed with the homer, his 15th of the year and his seventh in his last 13 games.
