You approach Diamondbacks pitching coach Dave Magadan before Saturday’s game and ask about first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. This is what he says:
“He doesn’t feel great at the plate. It’s one of those things where you get in the box and you just don’t feel comfortable.”
You ask manager Chip Hale about Goldschmidt and this is what he says:
“He has not felt comfortable. He knows it.”
Forty-five minutes later, Goldschmidt stops at the top step of the dugout and you ask him how he feels.
“I’ve felt fine,” he says. “All in all I feel good.
