Ever wonder what opposing players talk to each other about during games? During the Diamondbacks’ series with the Padres, fellow first basemen Paul Goldschmidt and Wil Myers have been discussing which one would finish the season with more stolen bases.
“It’s going to be tough to top Wil,” Goldschmidt said. “He’s done a great job.”
Myers has 21 stolen bases and 23 home runs, which is just the 11th time a San Diego player has had a 20-20 season.
Goldschmidt had 18 heading into Friday night’s game at Petco Park and is just two away from becoming the fifth first baseman since 1974 to record 20-plus in consecutive years, a list that includes Rod Carew, Jeff Bagwell and Ryan Klesko.
