Though Aroldis Chapman seems likely to be dealt in the coming weeks, it appears the Diamondbacks are not in pursuit of the Cincinnati Reds hard-throwing closer.
Diamondbacks General Manager Dave Stewart sounds content to stick with right-hander Brad Ziegler in the ninth inning, a role in which Ziegler has thrived for long stretches in recent years.
“With Ziegler doing the job that he has, I am looking to better ourselves more than likely in the front end versus the back end (of the bullpen),” Stewart said.
Ziegler, who took over as closer in place of right-hander Addison Reed in May, converted 30 of 32 save opportunities.
