Marte is actually the sixth Diamondback to appear in the #1 slot of the NL team, though that does include Brandon Webb, who understandably never hit lead-off! However, he is only the second Arizona player to truly “start” the All-Star game for the National League, after Luis Gonzalez. He had the first plate appearance in the 2001 All-Star Game, popping out to third off Roger Clemens. The following year, Junior Spivey took over at the top of the order for Jose Vidro, and in 2005, Gonzo again batted #1, though only as a ninth-inning pinch-hitter for Jimmy Rollins.
