After allowing an earned run in the first inning, Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin struck out five Phillies batters en route to an encouraging outing for the left-hander.
With the D-Backs trailing 1-0, Corbin was lifted with two outs in the seventh for newly recalled right-hander Rubby De La Rosa, whom manager Torey Lovullo said was to be used in low-leverage situations.
But De La Rosa was summoned to face No. 3 hitter Aaron Altherr, whom he struck out with a runner on second base to keep the Philadelphia lead at one run.
Slow start for Arizona bats
For the first three innings of play on Friday, a return to Chase Field has not been to kind to the Diamondbacks hitters — as Arizona trails, 1-0, as play moved to the fourth.
