As much as slugger Kevin Cron loved playing for the Diamondbacks — the club that was both his hometown team and the organization that employs his dad as a minor league coach — he said he couldn’t turn down the chance to head to Japan.
“It’s as bittersweet of a decision as you can make,” Cron said. “I’ve loved every second (with the Diamondbacks).”
Cron finalized a one-year deal this week with Nippon Professional Baseball’s Hiroshima Carp. According to reports out of Japan, the deal guarantees him a little more than $1 million.
Cron, 27, a product of Mountain Pointe High in Ahwatukee, played parts of the past two seasons in the majors with the Diamondbacks.
