In the minutes after his outings, Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen has come across as self-critical and frustrated. He has sounded at times like a pitcher struggling to find his stride.
Through four starts with the Diamondbacks, Gallen has managed to suppress runs. He has not managed to limit walks or consistently pitch deep into games, and it is these shortcomings that stand out in his mind, at least right after his starts.
And they are the areas he most wants to improve over the final month of the season.
