The Diamondbacks sent infielder Eduardo Escobar to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday in exchange for a pair of prospects, outfielder Cooper Hummel and third baseman Alberto Ciprian, the first significant trade the club has made in advance of Friday’s trade deadline.
The Brewers will take on what is left of Escobar’s $7.67 million deal, saving the Diamondbacks roughly $2.83 million.
Hummel, 26, was hitting .254/.435/.508 with six homers and 41 walks and 26 strikeouts in 168 plate appearances. He owns a career .389 on-base in parts of five seasons in the minors. He has seen time on the outfield corners as well as catcher and first base; the Diamondbacks are said to view him primarily as an outfielder.
