For Alex Avila, there is never a “eureka” moment that precedes the end of a slump. He won’t take a swing in the cage or notice something on video, make an adjustment and then suddenly find his fortunes have changed. Hitting is not that exact of a science, at least not for him.
So he cannot say, not with any degree of confidence, that his brutal start to the season could be on the verge of turning around. All he can do is trust that, at some point, it will be, which, it seems, is the same approach the Diamondbacks are taking with their struggling catcher.
