Diamondbacks' Steven Souza Jr. to undergo season-ending knee surgery after freak accident

The Diamondbacks are preparing for the worst with regard to right fielder Steven Souza Jr.’s knee injury, General Manager Mike Hazen said, and the team is expecting to have results Tuesday afternoon from an MRI taken in the morning.

They got their answer, and it was just as they thought.

Souza will need to undergo season-ending knee surgery to repair a torn ACL, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said.

Souza injured his left knee while scoring in the fourth inning on Monday night. His foot appeared to slip on home plate after he touched it on what was a routine, non-contact play.
