LOS ANGELES – Zack Godley’s latest throwing error came as a surprise to Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, who thought his right-hander had moved beyond his throwing issues based on what he saw in spring training.
“Everything was excellent,” Lovullo said. “There was nothing that stood out to me any time that I saw him working.”
Godley picked up a bunt by the Dodgers’ Kenta Maeda in the third inning on Saturday night, then lobbed an off-target throw to first base. There was some traffic around him – first baseman Jake Lamb had charged in and was only a few feet away – but it was a throw unlike those normally seen from big leaguers.
