The Diamondbacks made moves to give two lefties in the Reno Aces bullpen a tryout period, selecting the contracts of LHPs Steve Hathaway and Adam Loewen. With a full 40-man roster, that meant cutting two players. The two players on the short end of the stick are utility man Mike Freeman and former starter Josh Collmenter. The reason for adding those two is the Diamondbacks have gotten virtually no production from the left-handed relievers they've utilized this year. Andrew Chafin has been injured or ineffective, Zac Curtis was clearly rushed to the majors and wasn't ready for the job, and Keith Hessler pitched his way off the 40-man roster and into San Diego's.
