The Missoula Osprey, a Single A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, claimed the Pioneer League Championship ten days ago. A week later, one of the players on that team had his celebration cut short. Infielder Kal Simmons was suspended 50 games by the Commissioner’s Office for testing positive for amphetamines, according to Nick Piecoro at azcentral.
The 21-year old Simmons was a 2015 eighth round Draft pick out of Kennesaw St. He received 171 at-bats for Missoula and hit .222 with a .278 on-base percentage. Simmons had an outstanding Pioneer Championship series with six hits in 11 at-bats and four runs scored.
