When Diamondbacks top prospect Corbin Carroll made contact, he knew he hit the ball well. It was what happened next that concerned him.
“I felt the ball leave the bat and I’m like, ‘Dang that’s crushed,’” he said. “And, then in my backswing, it just felt like my arm kept going a little bit. It didn’t feel right.”
It turned out that Carroll, an outfielder, had managed to hit a home run and suffer a season-ending shoulder injury in the same moment last week while playing for High-A Hillsboro. On Wednesday, he underwent surgery to repair tears in the labrum and posterior capsule of his right (non-throwing) shoulder.
