The Diamondbacks placed infielder Deven Marrero on the 10-day disabled list due to inflammation in his left oblique and recalled right-hander Jimmie Sherfy prior to Saturday’s game against the Giants at Chase Field.
Marrero felt discomfort after taking batting practice on Friday, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Marrero, who played in college at Arizona State, has appeared in 49 games this year and has posted a .167 average.
Lovullo said the team had Marrero evaluated on Saturday and determined that the amount of inflammation warranted a trip to the DL. The move is retroactive to June 29.
