HOUSTON – Right-hander Clay Buchholz was diagnosed with a flexor strain in his right arm, a similar injury to the one that bothered him off and on for years before eventually requiring surgery last year.
Though manager Torey Lovullo wouldn’t say it, Buchholz’s season is likely finished. It was a surprisingly good one. After signing a minor-league deal with them in May, he posted a 2.01 ERA in 16 starts.
Buchholz is set to hit free agency at the end of the year, meaning he might have thrown his last pitch for the Diamondbacks.
“Clay is on his way back here right now,” Lovullo said before Friday night’s game at Minute Maid Park.
