Diamondbacks pitcher Braden Shipley plays waiting game prior to promotion

Stuck in a sort of baseball twilight zone, right-hander Braden Shipley flew to Minneapolis on Saturday not knowing if he would be pitching the next day – or even if he’d be on the roster.

“It’s been a ride,” Shipley said. “A little different than some of the other times I’ve been called up.”

Shipley was, in fact, on the roster, and though he didn’t get the starting assignment, he played a key role for the Diamondbacks on Sunday. And then he was sent back to the minors at the end of a whirlwind few days.

The Diamondbacks lost 12-5 to the Minnesota Twins, who completed a three-game sweep, and Shipley didn’t pitch particularly well, giving up five runs (four earned) in 5 2/3 innings.
