The Diamondbacks recognized the late Joe Garagiola during a ceremony before Monday's game against the New York Yankees, recounting his decorated career in baseball and television before unveiling a “Joe” emblem in left field.
Garagiola’s sons – Joe Jr. and Steve – and his daughter Gina participated in a ceremonial first pitch with Joe Torre, Bob Brenly and Lindsay Berra, Yogi Berra’s granddaughter.
“He loved coming here,” Joe Garagiola Jr. said. “He loved coming here as a broadcaster, and he loved coming here as a fan. Him and my mom would sit initially downstairs, and then they had their seats upstairs and they had their whole little routine worked out where they’d park and they’d walk across the bridge.
