SAN FRANCISCO – Paul Goldschmidt has had some early success by doing damage on the first pitch, but the Diamondbacks first baseman says it’s not the result of any sort of change in approach. It’s just a matter of him reacting to the way he has been pitched, he said.
“I just think I’m always ready to hit,” he said. “So it just depends. If they make a good pitchers’ pitch, you don’t want to just make an easy out first pitch. If there’s a good pitch to hit, I’m always ready to hit.”
Goldschmidt already has three hits on the five balls he’s put in play this season on the first pitch, including two on Sunday.
