David Peralta was deprived of oxygen and sported scrapes up and down both arms. But when he returned to a jubilant Diamondbacks dugout on Saturday night, he had given his teammates something they hadn’t had in what felt like forever. He’d given them a reason to smile.
“I didn’t slide home,” Peralta said of the triumphant, tumbling finale to his inside-the-park home run in the eighth inning. “I just laid myself down.”
With their 6-2 win over the Chicago Cubs at Chase Field, the Diamondbacks stopped a three-game losing streak. They held firm on their 4 1/2-game lead on a National League wild-card spot.
