PITTSBURGH – The Diamondbacks optioned right-hander Matt Koch to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday, a move that appears to signal an imminent return from the disabled list for right-hander Shelby Miller.
In Koch’s place, the club recalled right-hander Jake Barrett, who likely will be available in relief for the four games this week against the Pirates.
The Diamondbacks already have locked in their starting rotation for that series – in order: Zack Godley, Patrick Corbin, Zack Greinke, Clay Buchholz – meaning they will need a fifth starter on Monday against the Marlins.
That would figure to be the day Miller returns.
