Diamondbacks option Chase Anderson to Triple-A

PITTSBURGH -- The Diamondbacks optioned Chase Anderson to Triple-A Reno, a decision that stemmed from a combination of two months’ worth of struggles for the second-year right-hander as well as the club’s need for a fresh arm after a 15-inning game.

The move was both understandable and unexpectedly decisive, particularly given that Anderson had been the club’s best-performing starter for the better part of 2 1/2 months to open the season.

But he hadn’t been the same since mid-June, posting a 7.65 ERA in his past eight starts, including a dud on Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who scored seven runs off him in 4 2/3 innings.
