OAKLAND – As far as offensive outbursts go, the Diamondbacks’ was relatively modest on Friday night. But given what had preceded it in recent weeks, Nick Ahmed’s uncertainty was almost understandable.
“I don’t know how many we scored today,” Ahmed said. “Six, maybe?”
Close, but no. They scored seven. But as far as Ahmed was concerned, they scored enough. Enough that they not only won a game, beating the Oakland Athletics 7-1, they finally won one in which the outcome wasn’t hanging in the balance on nearly every pitch.
They scored early, they tacked on, they got good work from the pitching staff and they brought an end to a seven-game losing streak.
