New Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo announced his coaching staff on Thursday, naming longtime big-league manager Ron Gardenhire his bench coach but otherwise staying internal, either by retaining coaches from last year or promoting from within.
Gardenhire managed the Minnesota Twins for 13 seasons through 2014, capturing six division titles and finishing as the winningest manager in franchise history.
He was out of baseball for a season but returned this year as a special assistant for the Twins, an experience he said left him itching to get back on the field. But the alluring part of the job, he said, was the opportunity to work with Lovullo.
