You’d think after becoming the first Diamondbacks pitcher in franchise history to face three different Cy Young Award winners in a row that nothing could faze right-hander Matt Koch. Especially after the way things worked out for him.
As big as the names were, it wasn’t as if the Cy-Tri of the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw, the Astros’ Justin Verlander and the Nationals’ Max Scherzer outdueled him or anything. The Diamondbacks won two out of three during that stretch and in the lone loss charged to Koch, an 8-0 defeat to Washington, he went eight innings and allowed only three of those runs.
