PITTSBURGH – The Diamondbacks are cultivating a nice reputation for their ability to come back late in games. They might have outdone themselves Monday night at PNC Park.
Trailing by three runs to the stingiest starting pitcher in baseball, the Diamondbacks chipped, blooped and ultimately blasted their way to seven runs in the seventh inning and took the opener of a four-game set with the Pirates 12-4.
The Diamondbacks won for the fifth time this season when trailing after six innings. They continued their prowess of late-inning offensive production: They entered Monday tied for third in baseball with 42 runs scored in innings seven through nine.
