The diagnosis on Jake Lamb’s left-shoulder injury took a turn for the worse Tuesday with word that the Diamondbacks third baseman has fraying in his rotator cuff, according to manager Torey Lovullo.
One course of treatment, Lovullo said, is surgery, a route that would bring an end to his season. Lovullo said the more conservative option calls for rest and rehab, in which case Lamb could return this year. He added that no decision had yet been made.
Through a team spokesman, Lamb declined to speak with reporters.
“We’re going to huddle up over the next couple of days, over the next 48 hours, and figure out what the best plan is,” Lovullo said.
