The last time the D-backs faced the Rangers, it was in Phoenix, but was Game 5 of the 2023 World Series. Texas prevailed 5-0, despite a sterling effort by Zac Gallen to keep Arizona in the contest, and thereby finished the year top of the heap. The Diamondbacks had to settle for the National League pennant, though that was still a huge achievement, and one which far surpassed almost all expectations - not just before the season, but almost every step of the way to the World Series. However, if the season were to end right now, both of the World Series participants would find themselves out of the playoffs, even though six teams in each division now qualify for the post-season.
