DENVER – The Diamondbacks’ season so far has been filled with peaks and valleys and little in between – unless this past week or so qualifies as something else, something weirder. They scored 20, gave up 19 and played a 16-inning affair in a four-day span.
The concern, though, after they dropped a 5-1 decision to the Colorado Rockies on Thursday afternoon, is that they’re descending into another dark period. The loss was the Diamondbacks’ ninth in their past 13 games, their worst such stretch since they nearly flat-lined in the middle of May.
The struggles have cost them games in a tightly packed National League West.
