Diamondbacks extend qualifying offers to Patrick Corbin, A.J. Pollock

The Diamondbacks extended qualifying offers to left-hander Patrick Corbin and center fielder A.J. Pollock, setting the club up to receive draft-pick compensation should the players decline and sign elsewhere.

The qualifying offer is for one year at $17.9 million, and Corbin and Pollock have 10 days to decide whether to accept, during which time they are allowed to speak with other clubs to gauge their market.

Corbin declining seems like a foregone conclusion. With left-hander Clayton Kershaw working out a new deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers rather than testing free agency, Corbin looks to be the best available starting pitcher on the market.
