The Diamondbacks exercised slugger Paul Goldschmidt’s option for 2019, a no-brainer of a move that was more of a formality than a real decision.
Goldschmidt will make $14.5 million next year. It’s the final season of the team-friendly extension he signed prior to the 2013 season.
That deal guaranteed him $32 million over five years. With the option picked up – rather than a $2 million buyout – he’ll earn a total of $44.5 million over six years.
At $14.5 million, Goldschmidt’s salary will be closer to commensurate with his production than it’s been at any point in his deal.
