Clutch batting is great. However, clutch can mean several things. For this article, I thought of three things:
- Two outs with runner in scoring position (RISP). Hits and walks are ways to either score runs or keep alive the possibility to score runs. Hits and walks were chosen as measures because they score runs and just as importantly they keep alive the possibility of scoring runs.
- With less than two outs and a runner on first base, avoiding a double play prevents a crash in the possibility of scoring runs that inning.
- Hits and walks in high leverage plate appearances.
