Asked what it means to reach the 200-save mark in his career on Monday night, Diamondbacks closer Greg Holland answered with a story.
Early in his career, Holland and several Kansas City Royals teammates were invited to spend an afternoon with Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver at his Napa Valley home. Inside, standing before a wall filled with baseballs from his career, Seaver asked his guests to guess which ball was his favorite.
“Two thousand strikeouts? No,” Holland recalled. “Three hundred wins? No. He said, ‘Come on, guys. It’s easy.’ He picked up a ball and it had ‘301’ on it.
