Diamondbacks catchers delivering at the plate

DENVER – With a pair of trades over the past year, the Diamondbacks have drastically reshaped their catching position, going from a team that received little in the way of offensive production to one that leads the major leagues in OPS out of the position.

General Manager Dave Stewart would like to say he saw this coming, but, he says, he didn’t. Not quite like this, at least.

Welington Castillo, whom the Diamondbacks acquired from the Seattle Mariners last summer in the Mark Trumbo trade, is leading qualified major-league catchers with a .934 OPS. That mark leads all Diamondbacks hitters, and he also leads the team in home runs (seven) and RBIs (19).
