In his first official at-bat of the spring, Alex Avila launched a home run to right-center field in Goodyear. It remains his only hit in Cactus League play. If anyone with the Diamondbacks is even remotely worried about this, that would make them far more concerned than Avila.
If Avila knows what his batting average is, he did a convincing job of seeming unaware of it during an interview on Tuesday morning. He also didn’t seem to realize he has thrown out a handful of attempted base-stealers in recent weeks.
Those are occurrences that fall under the umbrella of results, which, for Avila, means they are to be ignored.
