SAN FRANCISCO – Jarrett Parker crossed first base with his arms outstretched in a safe call, and the Giants spilled out of the dugout and onto the field at AT&T Park. Perhaps they were as stunned to win as the Diamondbacks must have been to lose.
In falling 5-4 in 10 innings on Saturday night, the Diamondbacks managed to lose a game they seemed all but assured of winning. They led 4-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, and right-hander Taijuan Walker had handcuffed a Giants lineup that had looked feeble against Diamondbacks pitching through the first 15 innings of this series.
