The Diamondbacks rallied from a big deficit, blew a late-inning lead and lost a game on Thursday afternoon. It was a sequence of events that tends to produce a sour mood in a baseball clubhouse; getting blown out can often be easier to process than dropping a close game.
But after their 8-7 loss to the San Diego Padres on Opening Day at Petco Park, the Diamondbacks did not sound like they were fuming or dejected. They did not seem pleased, either, but they seemed capable of wading through the negatives to find the light on the other side.
