The Diamondbacks have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, a deal that will add a veteran presence to their position-player group and create flexibility for their lineup.
Cabrera, 35, will make $1.35 million with a chance to earn another $1.05 million in bonuses, according to a source, confirming a report by MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. The agreement is contingent upon Cabrera passing a physical.
The move appears to be the latest indication that Ketel Marte will see most of his time in center field this season. Marte played the position regularly in 2019 but was primarily the second baseman last year.
