There’s a saying in football - no, the other one - that you have to be insane to be a goalkeeper. I’m beginning to suspect the same may be true of relief pitchers. Or maybe it’s just that sitting around the bullpen with a lot of spare time in your hands, lends itself to shenanigans. When J.J. Putz was down there for us, he always had a reputation as a prankster (see below) - that has continued, even though he’s now part of the Diamondbacks’ front-office.
His legacy appears intact, based on the weirdness that unfolded during this afternoon’s second rain delay between the Cubs and Diamondbacks at Wrigley Field.
