Diamondbacks left-hander T.J. McFarland had his rehab assignment ended prematurely in order to join the club on Tuesday, manager Torey Lovullo announced.
McFarland had been set to throw around 50 pitches with Triple-A Reno on Monday but found out Sunday night that he would be activated by the Diamondbacks prior to their two-game series against the New York Yankees.
The Diamondbacks bullpen was in desperate need of a fresh arm after using each of its relievers in a 15-inning loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. Right-hander Jon Duplantier was optioned to Reno following the game.
