Diamondbacks 8/2: Reds 9/Athletics 4

In Goodyear, it was a mixed day in a 9-8 loss. Zac Gallen got his up-downs in three innings, and didn’t allow a hit in six outs with three K’s. But he walked three, and was inefficient. Still, better than Jordan Montgomery’s debut. He took 28 pitches for one out, allowing two hits, two walks and a hit batter, all five men scoring. Arizona came back, leveling the score at six, largely thanks to a Eugenio Suarez grand-slam (below). But Justin Martinez struggled with control, and was charged with three runs while recording one out. Corbin Carroll had a pair of hits, while Alek Thomas, Pavin Smith, Trey Mancini and Randall Grichuk each got a hit and a walk, and Jack Hurley went deep.
