Other than an 11 pitch walk for David Peralta, and a Nolan Arenado single, neither team managed much in the first inning. The Rockies, specifically Ian Desmond, got to Zack Greinke and the Diamondbacks defense in the bottom of the second however. Desmond singled on a swinging bunt. Jake Lamb went to field it, but threw it away and the runner was able to advance to second. Trevor Story came to the plate. Greinke threw a wild pitch, which allowed Desmond to take third. In an attempt to get Desmond, Jeff Mathis threw the ball away, and he was able to score.
