Merrill Kelly’s second outing was even better than his first. As before, he and Jon Duplantier were the only pitchers needed, but the starter did much more of the heavy lifting here. Kelly threw eight innings of four-hit ball, with an excellent K:BB ratio of 9:0. The only blemish he allowed was Mitch Moreland’s solo home-run leading off the seventh. Duplantier wobbled in the ninth, loading the bases in the ninth on two hits and a walk, but eventually escaped. However, Arizona could muster only singles by Christian Walker and John Ryan Murphy and a two-out double in the ninth by David Peralta.
