The ball left Joe Panik’s bat in the third inning on Thursday night and rocketed into right-center field. It flew toward a spot along the Chase Field warning track that looked to be the exact midpoint between Chris Owings and A.J. Pollock.
What followed was every outfielder’s worst nightmare. That it ended with an out being recorded was no surprise, given that’s what normally happens to balls in play against the Diamondbacks defense. That it ended with Owings walking off the field yet seemingly unscathed was something to be thankful for in what was a 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
