WASHINGTON – In addition to the game-saving catch center fielder A.J. Pollock made on Friday night, the Diamondbacks also benefitted defensively from a diving stop by first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and a lunging catch by shortstop Nick Ahmed on a line drive headed toward left field.
In other words, it was the typical night for the Diamondbacks’ defense, which seems to make a handful of standout plays every night. But that’s not the aspect of the defense that’s most impressed General Manager Mike Hazen.
“The steady defense is the key for us,” he said. “The flashy plays are going to happen with athleticism, with instinct, they’re just going to happen.
