The Diamondbacks have named Darnell Coles as their new hitting coach, adding that Tim Laker will return next season as the team’s assistant hitting coach. Coles replaces Dave Magadan.
Coles, 56, spent the past four seasons as the Milwaukee Brewers’ hitting coach. He resigned after the Brewers’ season ended in the National League Championship Series last week. Brewers General Manager David Stearns told reporters Coles had said he was “just ready for a new challenge and a new endeavor.”
Under Coles’ watch, the Brewers had some ups and downs this year. Outfielder Christian Yelich had a huge year and is likely to win the National League MVP award.
