D-Backs' Welington Castillo set to improve

Glenn Sherlock fed baseballs into a pitching machine on Thursday morning and Diamondbacks catcher Welington Castillo, squatting low behind the plate, plucked them out of the air with little movement.

Just about every morning during spring training, Sherlock, the Diamondbacks’ bench coach and de facto catching coach, and Castillo have put in early work on one or another aspect of catching. And Castillo, despite being a month away from turning 29, despite having more than four years of major league service time, is all for it.

“Whatever I need to do to make the pitchers feel comfortable on the mound, I would try everything,” Castillo said.
